On Saturday, September 30, 2017, St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church and Rise Against Hunger are joining forces in the fight against hunger, and we invite you to join the fight! We will package over 20,000 meals for the hungry. Rise Against Hunger, formerly Stop Hunger Now, is a nonprofit organization driven by the vision of a world without hunger. Rise Against Hunger packages and sends meals to people in need, and they need partners like us. People aged 5 and up can participate – there are jobs for everyone! UPDATE: We will have childcare for younger children whose parents are packing meals.
In preparation for this day, we need volunteers to commit! We need setup volunteers at 8:30 am. Packing volunteers need to arrive by 10 am on September 30 to package meals in a 2-3 hour period. Volunteers will work in a streamlined assembly line to package highly-nutritious individual meals from bulk ingredients: rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring/vitamin mix. Invite your friends and family to join us on this date! RSVP on our signup sheet at church, or email your name, phone number, and how many in your group to .
Last year’s meal packing was tremendous!

Rise Against Hunger’s mission
For more than 16 years, Rise Against Hunger has been driven by a mission to end hunger by providing food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable and by creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources. Their meal packaging program was created to give dedicated individuals the opportunity to participate in a hands-on international hunger relief program and to become educated, engaged advocates for the world’s poor and hungry.
What we want everyone to know is that hunger is solvable and is the common thread among the world’s most challenging issues. When hunger is targeted, you give leverage and hope to every other cause including poverty, disease, education and the welfare of women and children.
~Rod Brooks, President and CEO
