Kathy Wilkinson
My name is Kathy Wilkinson. My husband Gary and I have been members of St. Martin-in-the-Fields since 2014.
I am currently the facilitator of the Prayer Shawl Ministry; I have served on our Vestry, been a bread baker and participated in various other ministries. I am so grateful to St. Martin’s for the many opportunities it has afforded me to grow personally and spiritually.
As Episcopalians, we are taught the Gospel message, but I feel it is as important, if not more so, to “Live out the Lessons.” As Paulo Coelho shares in his work, “The Alchemist,” “When we love, we always strive to be better than we are. When we strive to be better than we are – everything around us becomes better.” Through the Prayer Shawl Ministry, we are able to let those in need of comfort know that they are loved and prayed for. I can only imagine how reassuring that must be.
Recently I was reminded, yet again, how much “This Northern Girl” struggles with the Texas heat. As I started my day enjoying my morning shower contemplating how high the temperature might reach that day, the thought struck me that the blessing of daily soap and water was not available to all in my community. Hence the “soap sack” project was born. The Prayer Shawl Ministry crocheted/knitted the drawstring bags and Vacation Bible School attendants and generous parishioners donated the soap. Together we were able to donate 267 soap sacks to the Presbyterian Night Shelter for distribution to those in need. Together we were able to become an instrument of God’s love for one another.
One of the best parts of life is that each morning we are given the opportunity to become a better version of ourselves. Together we can help make St. Martin-in-the-Fields better than ever too.
Gary and I plan to continue to give of our time, talents and treasure. We will be increasing our giving this year. We hope you will prayerfully consider joining us.
